Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect behind many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and performative fashion, most notably the pastel suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

Price's death comes just weeks after he debuted his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as a number of outfits for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Performative Style: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a true visionary whose legacy on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
