Viral video clips seemed to capture Jones flashing his middle finger at Jets fans, but Jones maintains he was actually signaling approval to Dallas supporters present at the game as his team secured a 37-22 victory.
“That was regrettable. That was essentially an interaction with our fans seated near me,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a large group of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was brimming with enthusiasm for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the gesture was entirely accidental, happening amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I just put up the wrong digit,” he remarked. “The action was inadvertently done. I’m not kidding. Should you call it unplanned, you can. But it got corrected rapidly.”
