Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
