New Particulars Emerge Concerning the Discovery of the Reiner Couple's Remains
New information has come to light regarding the untimely passing of esteemed director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their residence property on Sunday.
The Discovery
A source indicates citing a confidential source, a practitioner arriving for an session was the first to notice something was wrong after not being able to enter the home. The practitioner then reached out to the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives in the vicinity.
After gaining access to the house, Romy discovered her father's body. Accounts indicate she then exited the property overwhelmed with grief, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. Her roommate who had accompanied her then dialed 911. Afterward, paramedics found Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Criminal Charges
The police have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of premeditated murder, along with the use of a dangerous weapon, reportedly a knife. He is now being held and denied bail.
Clarifications
The person close to the family challenged several earlier details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner told first responders that her brother Nick lived in a guesthouse on the grounds, she did not point to him as a person of interest at that time.
The source also disputed widely reported suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "concerned" about Nick's conduct in recent weeks. Instead the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement applies to accounts of alleged "unstable" behavior by Nick at a event held by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the tragedy. While the source said they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they asserted that claims of a "blow-up" between the two were untrue.
Investigation Details
As stated by law enforcement officials, the medical examiner had not yet established at that point whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Preliminary media reports suggested the state of their bodies implied they had been dead for some hours.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park, some 15 miles from the scene. He was due to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his attorney, Alan Jackson, said his client had not been medically cleared and would be unable to attend until Wednesday at the earliest.
