Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Chants Targeting Coach Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side only seven months following leading disrespectful taunts targeting the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

This experienced forward, without a club after departing from Leeds, has signed a contract joining the second-tier strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career with Leeds was ended through agreement this past summer.

Among Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading abusive songs regarding Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party this spring. Now, the former England international will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to rescue the team he loves out of the drop zone.

Past Conflict Between the Striker and the Manager

The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager described the forward as a "muppet" when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends and Looking Ahead

All appears to have been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.

The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.

Wilder said back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no problem whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a great person, a class act. When I was playing we used to give it and accept it and that is an integral part of the game at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Pat.”

Recent Career Struggles

The forward featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United last season but the ex- Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has struggled with injury in recent years.
