One of the original creators behind the well-known frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has stated how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate prevented the launch for an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, who established the business alongside his partner, revealed that he will independently develop the controversial product as part of a personal collection showcasing issues Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Dispute Between Founders versus Corporate Owner

This latest development escalates the continuing disagreement between the world-famous dessert company with its corporate parent, the British packaged goods corporation which acquired Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

Both founders maintain how Unilever along with their ice cream division the Magnum brand improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's from "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Sorbet becoming an Emblem of Support

Mr. Cohen announced through social media how he is creating an innovative watermelon-based sorbet, asking for public suggestions regarding naming options plus additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” the founder stated from a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored ice cream that advocates for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become a symbol of support for Palestinians because of its colors, that match the colors in Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Previous Social Engagement plus Recent Developments

In 2021, the ice cream company refused to sell their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, resulting in Unilever selling their Israel business to a local licensee, thus allowing ongoing distribution in disputed territories.

This upcoming dessert series will be created through Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company which was first created several years back for endorsing former US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Leadership Changes and Upcoming Intentions

The founder stated that he plans to develop additional ice cream flavors that address issues which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly by Unilever.

This development follows partner Jerry Greenfield resigned his position at the company recently, following decades of involvement, citing concerns that the company's autonomy had been compromised following Unilever's decision to curb their advocacy work.

At that time, Mr. Cohen commented that "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

"My heart leads me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for corporate autonomy ensuring that the company can achieve its ethical purpose, the principles that it was founded on while upholding for decades," he explained to journalists.
