The Denver Nuggets star won the NBA's MVP honor in 2021, 2022, and 2024.

Triple National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "heartbreaking" knee injury as the Nuggets lost 147-123 at the Heat.

Jokic sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half following an inadvertent collision with fellow Nugget Jones.

The other player came down on the footwear of Jokic, and he instantly collapsed to the floor clutching his knee.

The veteran player, who leads the league season in boards and assists, recorded 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup before sustaining the problem.

He is scheduled for an scan on the following day to assess the severity of the issue.

"Immediately, Jokic realized there was a problem," stated Nuggets coach Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone that gets hurt, it's gut-wrenching, particularly somebody as talented as him. We will know more on Tuesday."

"The team will adjust together. Clearly, at this moment, I am more worried just about him as a person and the frustration of experiencing something of that nature."
