Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Labels Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Real Fans'

Fulham Begin Powerfully to Beat Spurs and Increase Tension on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "those individuals can't be real Tottenham supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.

Tottenham conceded a pair of goals in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th top-flight at home defeat of 2025.

But the main talking point was the visitors' next score when Vicario gave away the ball far outside his box.

He came out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball near the sideline.

However, instead of kicking it out of play, the Italian spun and attempted to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.

The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfielder Wilson, who bent a strike into the net from the touchline measured at thirty-six point six metres.

Seconds later when the ball came to Vicario again, some Tottenham supporters jeered him.

Spurs were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.

One of those booing episodes truly irritated Frank.

"I heard some of our fans reportedly booed the situation and jeered following, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Danish manager commented about the fans' reaction to his goalkeeper.

"[They] cannot be true Tottenham fans that do that. Fair enough booing following the match, no problem, but when we are in play, we are backing each other, we are with each other moving ahead."

Tete had handed the visitors a fourth-minute advantage before Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second period performance.

Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Hart stated that the second score was "totally avoidable".

"I certainly appreciate the supporters' disappointment," Hart continued. "I know the part Vicario is playing. He's a excellent team player, he's a true leader in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your actions.

"The keeper was heavily involved in what ended up to be the decisive score."

'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Frank Defended His Keeper Vicario Following the Match

Italian national team Vicario is in his 3rd season with Spurs.

He stated after the match that he had to take the criticism.

"The second score was a mistake of mine, I accept accountability for it," he commented.

"My aim was to clear the ball far and I just hit the ball in a poor manner. That made an even bigger challenge to climb."

He stated receiving jeers "comes with the game".

"I am mature, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team can't be affected by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the right to do what they think.

"It is on us to remain increasingly composed, to focus on our own performance. The team is missing in composure and calmness to overturn outcomes. Today is a bad loss and it is hard to take."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Line'

In spite of the keeper's error, it was not an simple score for Harry Wilson to convert.

Actually it was the next most distant top division goal of the season – following Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for the Cherries against Sunderland, which interestingly too occurred on the same day.

Wilson stated he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.

10 seconds passed between the keeper exiting of his area and the midfielder striking – which was five moments following the clearance.

"I felt like the keeper was away from the box for ages," he said.

"It amazed me not one of the defenders returned to the line. When not one of them defended the net, my interest sparked somewhat.

"Udogie fell too, which allowed me a little extra opportunity. Then it was all about attempting to achieve the right contact and place it on target. I had a good sense, as soon as it left my foot, that it was on the right line."

'When You're in a Poor Run, All Appears to Go Against You'

Booing While We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unjustifiable - Frank

While Vicario's error led headlines, this was an all-round poor performance for Tottenham to extend their home struggles.

The match was their 10th home loss of the year in the Premier League, a joint club statistic matching 1994 and 2003.

The side still have home fixtures against the manager's former club Brentford and title holders Liverpool to play prior to the close of the season.

Only one of those wins have come after Frank took over from his predecessor in the off-season.

"When you're behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated the boss.

"When you're in a poor run, everything seems to go against you as well – the opening was a redirected shot, the second is a error from Vic.

"This result leaves us in a position where we have suffered another match. Every game has a unique story, this game we were defeated in the early stages.

"We just need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and with luck something we can use to develop."

Spurs have lost 4 straight home capital clashes for the first time in the top division.

And they are averaging nine point five attempts and three point two shots on target per match in the Premier League – their lowest rates on file in a one season (since at least the 2003-04 season).

Ex- Cottagers midfield player Danny Murphy commented that Frank has to endure the criticism.

"He's got take the stick," Murphy remarked. "He's taken a high profile job at a huge football club with massive expectation. There is pressure and responsibility that accompanies that.

"The performances at home have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
